The Ministry of Economic Growth and Infrastructure Development (MEGID) took its land titling services directly into communities across St. James this week (October 12-16, 2026) through a series of land titling clinics. The outreach provided residents with guidance on the titling process and assistance with the documentation required to secure their land titles.
The week-long outreach was conducted by several critical units within the Ministry to support residents in navigating the land titling process. The exercise also includes on-the-ground verification of lot numbers to ensure that the correct titles are issued.
Speaking in the Flanker community yesterday (October 15, 2026), Acting Director of the Land Administration Management Branch, Nicholas Pennant, explained that deposited plans are used to identify lot numbers and verify the locations occupied by residents. This process helps to prevent errors that could result in titles having to be withdrawn and transferred again.
“One part of the process is to use our deposited plans that we have and find where the persons live actually on the ground to verify their correct lot numbers. And then that now will lead to us issuing the correct title to these persons, so we don’t have a repeat of taking back title and retransferring titles,” he said.
Meanwhile, Assistant Crown Counsel of the Legal Services Unit, Ricardo Allen, said the clinics provided residents with general information about the land titling process while assisting with the required documentation.
“We’re collecting documents, having them sign their agreement for sales and their instrumental transfers,” he said.
Mr. Allen added that residents’ responses to the clinic had been positive.
“People have been appreciative of us coming out to meet them, because it does make a difference, the kind of information that we give them,” he stated.
The clinic targets purchasers awaiting titles from the Minister of Housing, as well as purchasers with incomplete paperwork from the Minister of Housing or the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ). The week-long St. James land titling outreach covered Flanker, Norwood Section D, Pitfour, Glendevon and Barrett Town.
